ASUS “Vivobook 15X OLED” review, 12th generation Core H series & 15.6 type 2.8K organic EL installed

On July 14, 2022, ASUS JAPAN announced two new models of notebook computers, the “Vivobook 15X OLED X1503ZA” and the “Vivobook 14X X1403ZA”. It features a high-performance CPU called Intel’s 12th generation Core i7-12700H, which is often used in gaming notebook PCs and notebook PCs for creators that require high processing performance. It’s a model for people who don’t play PC games but want to do their daily work as comfortably as possible.

This time, I was able to try the “Vivobook 15X OLED X1503ZA” before it was released, so I would like to check its power.
Equipped with “H series” that realizes desktop-class performance
“Vivobook 15X OLED X1503ZA” is a standard notebook equipped with a 15.6-inch 2.8K organic EL display. At first glance, it looks like a normal laptop computer, but the contents are a bit different.

The 12th generation Core i7-12700H called “H series” is installed in the CPU that affects the processing performance of the personal computer. While general standard notebooks and mobile notebooks are equipped with the “P series” with a TDP (thermal design power) of 28W and the “U series” with a TDP of 15W / 9W, the “H series” installed in this model is. The TDP is 45W, which is comparable to the CPU for desktop PCs.

This “H series” is often used in gaming notebook PCs and PCs for creators, and while high performance can be expected, the main body becomes large and thick in order to improve cooling performance. In that respect, this model realizes a slim body with a thickness of 20.2 mm by using a specially set motherboard and dual heat pipes. The weight is also suppressed to about 1.7 kg.

The installed Core i7-12700H is a CPU with a total of 14 cores and 20 threads, consisting of a P core (Performance-core) with 6 cores and 12 threads and an E core (Efficient-core) with 8 cores and 8 threads. The operating frequency is 2.3GHz to 4.7GHz for the P core and 1.70GHz to 3.50GHz for the E core. The memory is DDR4-3200 16GB, the storage is 512GB SSD (PCI Express 3.0 x2 connection) and the specifications other than the CPU are relatively basic specifications.

I checked the performance with a standard benchmark program.
From the results of the benchmark program “CINEBENCH R23 / R20” that measures CPU performance, it can be seen that its high power is fully demonstrated. CPU power lives on in every task of everyday life. This model with high CPU power is perfect for multitaskers who work secretly while making remote meetings or video calls. If you find that the operation becomes heavy or stiff when you do various tasks at the same time, please check this model with full CPU power.

Equipped with a vivid 15.6-inch 2.8K organic EL display
Another feature of the “Vivobook 15X OLED X1503ZA” is the display. ASUS JAPAN is actively adopting organic EL displays, and this model will also be equipped with a 2.8K 15.6-inch organic EL display.

The resolution is 2880 x 1620 and the refresh rate is 120Hz. It’s not a gaming laptop, but it has a smooth display. The surface is glare and reflection is suppressed.
Equipped with a 920,000 pixel Web camera at the top. It is equipped with a privacy shield that physically hides the camera, giving you a sense of security. It also has an AI noise canceling function, so you can participate in video conferences with a clear voice.
A keyboard and touchpad with little habit, and a full range of external interfaces
Finally, let’s check the usability. The keyboard has three rows of numeric keys. The key pitch is an isolation keyboard with an actual measurement of about 19 mm. The keystroke was actually about 2mm, and the keystroke feeling was soft, but there was a solid click feeling, and I was able to type comfortably. The touchpad is wide, but the surface is a little slippery. I’m a little worried that the surface of the touchpad is not slippery, but it can be said that there is little operability including the keyboard.
summary
Price of “Vivobook 15X OLED X1503ZA”.com The lowest price is from 124,800 yen. Considering that it is equipped with a high-performance CPU that demonstrates desktop-class performance and a vivid organic EL display, it is a model with high cost performance.

Also, I would like to pay attention to the concept of standard notebook with high CPU performance, which has not been seen recently. If you want a high-performance laptop, but the gaming laptop is flashy and difficult to choose, check out the Vivobook 15X OLED X1503ZA.
